another serial killer on the loose…It’s almost Christmas time and Jenna, Kane & team are getting into the spirit of the season when residents start disappearing。 This serial killer is very smart…and unassuming and you wouldn’t guess his identity! Another fast paced story in Black Rock Falls。

This is the first book of the Detectives Kane and Alton series that I've read。 It's already book 18 and it's called Now You See Me by D。K。 Hood。 It was published yesterday and I received it from Bookouture via Netgalley。 The search for a missing bartender is widened when another person vanishes into thin air。 In another town a complete family has gone missing。 Are the case connected and will they be able to stop people from going missing? To be honest, I just couldn't get into the book。 Perhaps it's because it's only the first one I've read in a series of 18 books, but it just didn't grab me。 There were too many main characters which made it quite confusing and hard to focus。 The dialogue at times was a bit weird and made no sense - like when a horrific scene was found a character smiles widely - it doesn't make sense。 The writing itself came across as a bit hastily done and should have gone through a check first for fluency。 The story was also quite predictable and it took away anything suspenseful whatsoever。 I would not recommend this book as a standalone。 Perhaps it works when you've read the other books, but that doesn't take away the fact that the writing was rather subpar。 2/5⭐ 。。。more

There's no sign of forced entry, no sign of a struggle, just a husband, wife, and young son missing from their home。 Very, very weird! What happened to this family? Why were they taken? In the frigid temps, they left without their coats! Maisy Jones is a new resident in Black Falls。 She moved here hoping to get a job at the local ski resort, but was too late to get a job this season。 Maisy settled for taking a temporary job as a bartender at the local bar。 As she was leaving after her shift, she thought someone was following her as she walked to her truck。 She made it to her truck okay and figured it must've been someone going to their car。 Maisy's truck didn't start right up, it sputtered a bit, but finally started。 As she drove out of the parking lot towards the motel she had rented a room in, her truck started having issues and the engine gave out。 Maisy pulled to the side of the road and tried to start it again。 No luck。 Maisy got out of the truck and started walking towards her motel because she didn't have any other options。 It was so late that she didn't think she'd see much traffic。 As Maisy walked she heard a truck coming。 It sounded like a big pick up truck and she was surprised when the truck stopped beside her。 The man looked "normal" enough and he offered Maisy a ride to her motel。 He said he'd been hunting and as long as she didn't mind the smell, he'd get her where she needed to go。 It was absolutely freezing, but Maisy turned him down at first。 As the man told her the motel was at least 5 miles away, she reconsidered and got in the truck。 Once in the truck she heard the locks click and the truck turned away from where her motel's located。 The smell in the truck was awful land when she turned around the backseat was covered in plastic and there were 3 people sitting behind the plastic and they were all dead!! It was the missing family!!! Maisy screamed and knew she was in big trouble。 The man covered her face with a cloth and Maisy passed out。Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane were called when a truck was found on the side of the road and no one knows what happened to the driver。 They find out the truck belonged to Maisy Jones and that she was working at the local bar as a bartender。 David finds out that the truck had been tampered with and someone wanted her to break down。 The investigation draws blanks。 No one knows what happened to her, but she was at work the night before。 They find out she had rented a room at the motel, but she paid in cash and all of her stuff is still in her room。 What happened to Maisy? Where could she be?A red backpack is found along the same stretch of road a bit later and Jenna was hoping it would be Maisy's。 The backpack belonged to Billy Stevens, a young teaching assistant at the school。 He didn't have a car and walked to and from school from the house he rented with 4 other men。 The other men are doctors and work long and weird hours。 None of them knew that Billy was missing because when they're home they're usually sleeping。 No one at school knew what happened to Billy either。 They just knew he didn't show up for work and he was always so reliable。 He definitely would've called if he was sick。 So now Billy has vanished without a trace, too。 Who is taking these people and why?I read this book very quickly and really enjoyed it。 A serial murderer is in town and he has a diabolical reason for wanting different aged people to kill。 It's almost Christmas in Black Falls and everyone is decorated and festive。 It's the worst possible time for people to be missing。 Jenna and David have lots of missing people to find and each day that passes more go missing。 Will Jenna and David find the killer before he murders all of the victims? Where is he keeping the missing? How can what he's doing go unnoticed? If you love a good mystery this is the book for you!I look forward to the next book in the series and love the characters that D。K。 Hood has created。 I rated Now You See Me 5 stars and it is a must read! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for a fair review! #NowYouSeeMe 。。。more

People are going missing around Black Rock Falls。 They suspect a serial killer is operating in the area but he is leaving few clues。 No bodies are found and the victims are all different ages and sexes。 Can they find him before more people disappear。 This is the first book I have read by this author and it won’t be the last。 I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what would happen next。 Plenty of suspense to keep you guessing。 Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy。

I just HAVE to give this story 5 Stars on Amazon because it was SO well written。 Creepy when it comes to the murder but so different too。 But thankfully there were also some really GOOD people in the story。 Dave (often spoken of as Kane) and Jenna definitely fall into that category。 One of my favorite things that made me smile? It is winter in Black Rock Falls, and the odd snowflake floats down, but you just know, as with everything else here, the weather will soon become extreme。 Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane are called to an abandoned vehicle, left on the side of an ice covered stretch of road leading out of town。 There is no sign of any occupants; they have vanished, leaving only questions behind。 As the town gets ready for Christmas, and decorations begin to go up, more residents vanish, with no clu It is winter in Black Rock Falls, and the odd snowflake floats down, but you just know, as with everything else here, the weather will soon become extreme。 Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane are called to an abandoned vehicle, left on the side of an ice covered stretch of road leading out of town。 There is no sign of any occupants; they have vanished, leaving only questions behind。 As the town gets ready for Christmas, and decorations begin to go up, more residents vanish, with no clues left to aid the Sheriff’s department in any way。 When Jenna and Kane find out their friends and local FBI agents, Jo Wells and Ty Carter are also looking into a missing person's case it seems, once again, there is a serial offender in their town bringing danger at what should be a happy time of year。 This is the eighteenth Kane and Alton mystery, and I've read and enjoyed every one of them。 The story is seen from both sides, which adds to the tension without giving away who is responsible, and there are shocks and surprises throughout。 As usual, the regular forays into Jenna and Kane's private life run alongside the main investigation and once again take this series to the next level。  Although I did work out one part of the storyline and think I spotted a couple of potential pointers towards a murder filled future everything else fell into place gradually and there were things I didn't see coming at all。 I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, but the opinions expressed are my own。 I loved this。 It was original but familiar and is easy to recommend。 。。。more

Of the 17 previous books in this series, I've read only two - the most recent two years ago。 Here, lead characters Sheriff Jenna Alton and her hunky deputy David Kane are married, living and working in small-town Black Rock Falls。 As this one opens, local bartender Maisy Jones goes missing and is feared to be yet another victim of a long-time and prolific serial killer。 Jenna and David find her abandoned truck and a backpack, but there's no sign of Maisy and the backpack contents belong to a you Of the 17 previous books in this series, I've read only two - the most recent two years ago。 Here, lead characters Sheriff Jenna Alton and her hunky deputy David Kane are married, living and working in small-town Black Rock Falls。 As this one opens, local bartender Maisy Jones goes missing and is feared to be yet another victim of a long-time and prolific serial killer。 Jenna and David find her abandoned truck and a backpack, but there's no sign of Maisy and the backpack contents belong to a young teaching assistant who - wait for it - has gone missing as well。 Uh, oh, this could spell double trouble (at least)。Other characters from other books quickly get involved - such as FBI agents Carter and Jo Wells and Medical Examiner Shane Wolf, along with lovable but skilled canines Duke and Zorro。 And the team will need all the help it can get: There are virtually no clues and no actual bodies; then, the unthinkable happens and a couple of other prominent people go missing。The action - and there's plenty of it - focuses on the investigation (which, at one point becomes a life-and-death situation for Jenna and her husband) as well as snippets from the perspective of one of the victims。 Who is the kidnapper/killer? Where is he (or she) stashing the victims, and are they dead or alive? Those questions, and others, are answered as this edge-of-your-seat story unfolds。 All in all, another satisfying addition to the series, and I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for allowing me to read and review a pre-release copy。 。。。more

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Now You See Me, the eighteenth novel to feature Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane of the Black Rock Falls, Montana Sheriff’s Office。Maisie Jones’s car is found on the edge of the highway and she is nowhere to be seen。 Jenna and Dave quickly realise that her car has been tampered with and she gets that sinking feeling, especially when assistant teacher, Billy Stephens’s backpack is found by the edge of another road。 Cons I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Now You See Me, the eighteenth novel to feature Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane of the Black Rock Falls, Montana Sheriff’s Office。Maisie Jones’s car is found on the edge of the highway and she is nowhere to be seen。 Jenna and Dave quickly realise that her car has been tampered with and she gets that sinking feeling, especially when assistant teacher, Billy Stephens’s backpack is found by the edge of another road。 Consulting with FBI Agents Jo Wells and Ty Carter who are in nearby Blackwater hunting for a missing family they think the disappearances might be linked。I enjoyed Now You See Me, which is another visit to Serial Killer Central as Black Rock Falls has become known with all the requisite twists and turns and explosive action that the series is known for。 It is told from various points of view, mainly some of the victims, Kane and Alton, giving the reader a leg up on events over the investigators, but not so much as a hint of the killer’s identity。 This is a different type of read to many of the other novels。 There are no bodies so the team are fumbling in the dark for much of the novel, unsure of what has happened to the missing, but with suspicions and no idea of the perpetrator’s identity or killing site。 The identity is revealed quite early in the novel, about 70% in, but that is only half the story with some quite shocking twists to follow。The novel has a bit of everything, friendship, tension, uncertainty and some explosive action。 It held my attention throughout and I was impressed by some of the twists the author threw in。Now You See Me is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending。 。。。more
